Perks of Residence Visa
Application Process
To apply for a UAE residence visa, secure a sponsor, gather essential documents, undergo a medical examination, and complete biometric screening. Submit your application online or in person, pay the required fees, and once approved, have your visa stamped in your passport. Finally, collect your Emirates ID when it’s ready.
Duration and Renewal
UAE residence visas are generally valid for 1 to 3 years, depending on the visa type. To renew, apply within 30 days before expiration, submit updated documents, undergo a medical exam if required, and pay the renewal fees. The renewed visa will be stamped in your passport, and your Emirates ID will be updated. Timely renewal is crucial to avoid fines.
Work Authorization
A UAE residence visa allows the holder to work if it is issued under an employment visa or sponsored by an employer. To legally work, the visa holder must also have a valid work permit & labor card, both issued by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation (MOHRE). Family-sponsored residence visa holders need to apply for a work permit separately if they wish to work. Working without the proper permits can result in legal penalties, fines, & visa cancellation.
Sponsorship Requirements
In the UAE, an individual can be sponsored for a residence visa by an employer, a family member (spouse, parent, or child), or an educational institution. The sponsor is responsible for ensuring the visa holder’s legal status, covering visa application costs, and complying with UAE laws. The visa holder is obligated to maintain their legal status, adhere to visa conditions, and renew their visa on time. Both parties must comply with UAE regulations to avoid fines or penalties.
Rights and Responsibilities
Holders of a UAE residence visa have the right to access public healthcare services, enroll their children in schools, and open bank accounts. They are responsible for maintaining valid residency status, complying with UAE laws, and renewing their visa and Emirates ID on time. Visa holders must also have health insurance, as it is mandatory in most emirates. Failure to meet these responsibilities can lead to fines, legal consequences, or visa cancellation.
Exit and Re-entry
Holders of a UAE residence visa can freely leave and return to the country without needing an exit permit. However, they must ensure their residence visa remains valid, as it becomes void if they stay outside the UAE for more than six consecutive months. Upon returning, the visa holder must present their passport with the valid residence visa and their Emirates ID at immigration. If a visa holder plans to stay abroad for an extended period, they may need to apply for a re-entry permit to maintain their residency status.
